what is an e-collar?
An e-collar is a training tool that allows instant communication with your dog, even from a distance. Our e-collars have three functions: tone, vibration, and static. Tone and vibration are used to redirect your dog’s focus and manage behavior, while static is a last resort for emergency situations to prevent harm to your dog, other animals, people, or property.

In-Ground Fencing
If you’re seeking a secure yard for your furry friend on a budget, an in-ground invisible fence is the answer. Even a physical fence is improved with this system, as it thwarts jumping and digging. Our team is pleased to offer installation of our in-ground system at a fraction of the cost of a physical fence! Schedule your FREE consultation today to see if an in-ground fence is right for you!
FAQs
-
We do not require an e-collar for training. While we recognize that e-collars are a tool and have their place, they are not always the right tool for the job. They may be recommended for certain use-cases, though we prefer to use counter conditioning before resorting to e-collar.
-
We do sell e-collars ranging from $45 to $250. You are welcome to purchase one from an outside source, but we recommend looking for one that has a tone, vibration, and static.
-
E-collars, static collars, training collars, and shock collars are all one in the same. The vital difference is how these tools are used. We approach this training through positive reinforcement and reserve the use of static for emergency situations only. We focus on using the tone function as a long-distance recall.

Here at Circus Dog Training, we like to think about e-collars like firearms. They can be used to harm innocents, or they can be used to save lives; it all comes down to how they're used. We focus on using positive reinforcement with tone and vibration to teach your dog what behavior is acceptable. An e-collar allows for immediate communication with your dog, clarifying what is and isn't allowed. We use static as a last resort to prevent injury, property damage, or loss of life. When static is used as the main function of the collar, it is no longer fair to your dog and can be abusive.

We focus on using the painless tone and vibration functions with our e-collars, leaving their static function as a last resort. When static is necessary, we keep the level low enough that it will not injure your dog. They may jump, whimper, or yelp, but that is generally out of surprise rather than pain. The sensation of a static correction is comparable to the shock you feel touching a metal doorknob when you're wearing wool socks on carpet.
